Trustee — Communications & Public Relations
Mr. Edwin Kweku Andoh Baffour is a Ghanaian public relations and communications practitioner with a BA in International Relations (1998) from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and holds two diplomas in Radio Broadcasting and announcing from the Columbia School of Broadcasting. He is well-travelled, having grown up in Lesotho, Cameroon, Botswana, Kenya and the US, and has visited 38 countries.
In 2002 he was a marketing executive at Joy FM before joining British American Tobacco (BAT) as a Corporate Relations executive. In 2005, as Brand Manager, he was a key member of the team that launched Standard Trust Bank (now UBA), championing the launch of the innovative "Cashless account" in Ghana. He also served as Brand Manager transitioning Fidelity Discount House into a fully-fledged universal bank in 2006.
At Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd (GGBL), he served both the marketing and Corporate Relations functions. As Communications Manager, he was key to the success of the "Fan Park" experience at the African Cup of Nations in 2008. In Marketing, he led the Malts team to launch Alvaro and Malta Guinness Quench. In 2009 he was appointed Head of Corporate Relations, pioneering the Responsible Drinking Campaign and leading the Diageo "Water for Life" initiative for needy communities.
Since 2015 Mr. Baffour has volunteered as the Communications Director of Food Sovereignty Ghana, a civil society organization championing the fight against the inclusion of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) in Ghana's food system. After over a decade of litigation in the Human Rights High Court, a judgment directed all GMO food and feed in Ghana to be labelled. Through FSG he has also done extensive advocacy on the fight against illegal mining, and through the promotion of Agroecology he has engaged many stakeholders on the harmful effects of agrochemicals in agriculture and the environment.
He has also been the Public Relations and Advocacy Director of the Vegetarian Association of Ghana since 2004.
In 2011, Mr. Baffour was the concept creator of the "Mirror Ball", an old school social event for mature audiences hosted by premium hospitality venues in Ghana. He has extensive experience in script writing and producing documentaries, and is a co-producer of the second edition of the award-winning short film "You Hide Me" by Ghanaian veteran filmmaker Nii Kwate Owoo. He has been the master of ceremony (MC) for many prominent events, and enjoys farming, good music, history, film and cooking.
He is currently the Deputy Head of Corporate Affairs at a leading Ghanaian institution.
